The good news just keeps coming: Apple was found to be violating antitrust relating to it’s App Store monetization policies.
We (in the mobile ad space) have known this for years here’s me mentioning that Apple is a monopoly on iOS advertising in a blog post in 2022.
I’m just happy that the courts are so far finding the truth. The next concern is that Apple will use this to pivot further towards making iOS data further siloed so that the only company that can use it is Apple. What Apple likes to call “user privacy” is just Apple’s proprietary moat to the monetization castle.
What’s a bit scary? Apple’s billions in cash, if they decide to dig in here they can do a lot of lobbying by speaking in hushed tones about “privacy” and get GDPR like legislation passed that cements it’s monopoly power in law.
What could be next from Apple?
I think they will push their lobbying for a privacy bill which further prevents advertising and promotes payments.
